“Helvetica: A Documentary Film” by Gary Hustwit –  this is a feature length film that looks into the history of the famous typeface Helvetica, how it came about and why people love or, in some cases, hate it.

The film also looks into graphic design and the global visual culture so is a great watch for anyone remotely interested in design. A great synopsis on the website that quickly explains the film far more succinctly than I could goes as follows:

Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day”

Unfortunately, unlike the Connecting documentary I blogged about a while back, this film is not free to watch. You can however watch a preview, rent or buy the film from the Helvetica documentary website at this address: http://www.helveticafilm.com/index.html
So go take a look…
